Well, winter has well and truly dug its heels in here in Melbourne. The puffer jackets are on high rotation, the kettle barely gets a break, and I'm pretty sure I've forgotten what the sun looks like. Spring, if you're reading this, we'd really appreciate it if you could hurry up.
But since we can't fast-forward the seasons, we may as well embrace the best bits of winter. And for me, that means leaning into all the cosy, comforting pastries that somehow taste even better when it's cold outside. Whether it's a flaky, golden sausage roll, a rich and hearty gourmet pie, a buttery Danish, or a sweet pastry fresh from the oven, winter is the perfect excuse to indulge in your favourite bakery treats.
There's something about wrapping your hands around a hot coffee while tucking into a freshly baked pie or a perfectly crisp sausage roll that just makes a cold Melbourne day feel a little more bearable. So, while we patiently (or perhaps impatiently) wait for spring to arrive, let's celebrate the season with all the warm, flaky pastries, artisan pies, and delicious sausage rolls that make winter worth savouring—one bite at a time.
